Gnomes are a race of small humanoids with a great mastery of technology. In fact, they once used to be technology, as they were created by the titan Mimiron, but later fell to the curse of flesh that made them the beings they are today.
Reflecting their technological nature, gnomish names tend to sound small and mechanical. However, some gnomes have human names instead, perhaps due to their relatively good relationship with humans, or perhaps as a market strategy, since a human name would be easier to remember for their clients.
Gnomes receive a first and last name at birth. These last names are the name of their father or other important ancestor. They usually represent a feat of strength, one which has been achieved within this particular family.
Once a gnome has grown older (25-35), they're expected to achieve their own greatness, which will then give them a new last name.
